Bairnsdale trainer Peter Fiske and his kennel star Eagle Bread enjoyed continued success at Sale Greyhounds last week, with Eagle Bread ($4.10) claiming victory for the third consecutive Wednesday. The speedy chaser has now won three of seven starts and is shaping up as a genuine improver.
The Giffard-based Doctors kennel got the meeting off to a flying start, winning the first three races on the card, all maidens, with Dr. Calista ($1.70), Dr. Warren ($2.30) and Dr. Beyond ($1.60). Dr. Calista recorded the fastest time of the day at 24.36.
The second half of the card was dominated by Maffra’s Fulford kennel, which struck with Romp Tin ($10.30), Warrior Ethan ($4.00) and Warrior Jack ($5.80). The Doctors kennel added three seconds and a third to its tally, highlighting
the strength of the local circuit.
Sunday afternoon at Sale produced more local winners. Toongabbie’s Dawn Johnston celebrated early with first-starter Kiah’s Rufus ($21.70) overcoming a slow start, and later Bo Rhapsody ($1.90) showcased city-class ability in the seventh event. Young speedster Dr. Will ($1.80), a son of champion Dr. Tucker, made light work of his rivals with a scorching 24.19, the fastest of the meeting, marking three wins in a row for the Doctors kennel.
Other notable local successes included Sassy Gal ($5.40) for Fulham trainer Billy Stockdale, Thunder Rose ($15.00) holding off Bring Your Best in the free-for-all for Rosedale trainer Jeff Chignell, and Myall Mate ($9.10) leading all the way for Kilmany trainer Louie Cardillo, holding off Hay Riley. Giffard West’s Michelle Wilkins returned to the winner’s circle with Somerton Ann ($12.00), backing up from Wednesday’s meeting.
Racing continues this week with a Wednesday day meeting and a Sunday twilight fixture.
