Students from Bairnsdale Christian College visited Gippsland Agricultural Group’s research farm at Bengworden where they were given an overview of farming practices.
The visit was part of a three-day event – Youth Agritech Expo – held in Bairnsdale and Sale, and designed to educate and inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders.
Conducted over the past three days the Expo offered a range of free workshops and activities for students, parents and teachers.
The Christian College students, aged 14-16, were educated in seeds, cropping, sheep and a tractor that steers itself.
General Manager of Gippsland Agricultural Group, Jen Smith, told Primary Producer, “There’s quite often a disconnect where your food and fibre comes from”.
“It’s really good to connect young people with industry in their region.
