State Member for Gippsland East, Tim Bull, has backed calls for a Royal Commission into alleged corruption on Victorian Government Big Build projects, speaking on the matter in State Parliament last Thursday.
All non-Labor parties supported a motion urging the Allan Labor Government to
establish the inquiry.
“When you have every other party in Parliament agreeing on a matter like this, it is fairly obvious it needs investigating,” Mr Bull said. He described the claims as “potentially the biggest corruption scandal in the history of the State,” citing integrity expert Geoffrey Watson SC, who estimated up to $15 billion of taxpayer money may have been lost.
Mr Bull criticised the government’s handling of the issue, saying repeated concerns about the CFMEU’s links to the underworld had been ignored. He called on Premier Jacinta Allan to act and grant IBAC the powers needed to investigate.
“Our motion sends a clear message: Victorians support a Royal Commission,” he said.
