Phoenix Singers Choir joyfully entertained more than 100 people at their debut performance “An Afternoon With Phoenix Singers” at the Uniting Church on Sunday, March 29.
The 30 singers, enthusiastically conducted by Kim Green and accompanied by Julie Trewin, sang a variety of songs which appealed to the wide age range of the audience.
Their obvious delight in singing and entertaining the audience was infectious and the
audience responded.
There were also performances by the saxophone quartet ‘saxofono ergo sum’ including James and Lynette Newman and Cody Stephens and Emily Crouch.
There were individual performances by talented Bairnsdale Secondary College music students Emily Crouch on saxophone and also Benjamin Quinlan who played his own
composition on piano.
James Newman’s guitar backing for On Top Of The World added another dimension.
To end the concert trumpeter Nicholas McLaughlin added to the rousing rendition of Hand Me Down My Silver Trumpet.
Phoenix Singers have risen from the ashes of the Newland Singers.
They have soared from the beginnings
of a disparate group of community people who wanted the joy and challenge of
singing together.
This year, members of Viva Voce have
added their voices to this choir after their
group wound up.
Phoenix Singers are grateful to the Uniting Church for the venue and the VIEW club
ladies who assisted with the sumptuous
afternoon tea.
Proceeds from the afternoon are to be donated to the Uniting Church organ fund.
