Community consultation is continuing for the Omeo Structure Plan, with East Gippsland Shire Council progressing work to guide the long-term growth and development of the High Country township.
The plan is being developed as a strategic framework to help manage future land use, infrastructure and development in Omeo, which serves as a key service centre for surrounding communities in the district.
Council is seeking input from residents, landowners and businesses to help identify local priorities, challenges and opportunities, with feedback forming a key part of the
planning process.
Structure plans are used to provide a coordinated approach to growth, outlining how land can be used and developed while balancing community needs, environmental considerations and infrastructure planning.
The Omeo project builds on broader planning work across East Gippsland, with place-based and structure planning initiatives designed to reflect the unique characteristics of individual communities and support future decision-making.
Council has indicated the plan will consider a range of factors including housing, services, transport, economic development and the town’s role within the wider region.
The consultation phase, which is ongoing in April, includes opportunities for the community to provide feedback through council’s Your Say platform, with submissions helping shape the draft plan.
Once prepared, the draft structure plan is expected to be released for further public consultation before being finalised and
used to guide future planning and investment in Omeo.
