East Gippsland residents and businesses planning to build, renovate or extend their properties now have access to a new online tool designed to streamline early planning enquiries.
The tool, known as myLot, has been launched by East Gippsland Shire Council and is available via its website, providing 24/7 access to preliminary planning guidance.
It is designed to help users understand whether a planning permit may be required for proposed projects, including sheds, decks, home extensions, renovations and granny flats.
Council says the platform works by guiding users through a series of questions and generating tailored information based on the planning scheme, offering an early indication of potential requirements before formal applications are lodged.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the tool was intended to make the planning process more accessible, particularly for those unfamiliar with council requirements.
“For many residents and businesses, knowing where to start can be the hardest part of the planning process,” Cr Ashworth said.
“This tool provides clear, easy-to-understand information, helping people understand what may be required before taking the next step.”
She said the system was designed to support, rather than replace, Council’s
planning staff and professional advice.
“Our Planning team will continue to assess applications and provide expert advice,” she said.
“This tool is designed to answer early questions and help residents and businesses come to Council
better prepared.”
Council says the introduction of myLot is expected to improve efficiency in the planning process by helping applicants submit more complete and better-informed applications, potentially reducing delays.
The tool is now live and can be accessed through
East Gippsland Shire
Council’s website.
