Echo Bend Camping Park has again proven a popular Easter destination, with returning visitors joined by new families during the three-day holiday period.
Operators Julie and Geoff Webb said this year’s Easter period attracted a strong mix of caravans and tents, with caravans appearing more prevalent than in previous years. While the long weekend began with some drizzly weather, conditions improved, allowing campers to enjoy a full program of activities.
A highlight of the weekend was the return of the annual campsite decorating tradition on Saturday evening, with more than half the park taking part in creating displays for the Easter Bunny’s arrival.
On Sunday morning, around 65 children, accompanied by parents, joined the popular Easter Bunny Walk through nearby bushland, where treats were hidden along the route. A raffle prize at the conclusion of the walk was won by seven-year-old Christopher Snyder.
The afternoon featured the annual gumboot throwing competition, which attracted competitors across all ages. Separate heats were held for women and men, with the event again drawing a strong crowd of spectators.
One of the weekend’s main events, the billy boiling competition, saw teams of two compete to bring a billy of water to the boil using provided equipment including wood, an axe and matches. This year’s winners were Jayden Mathison and Dean Grealy.
The Easter program concluded with live entertainment from Bairnsdale performer Mark Linsay, who provided music into the evening as campers wound down after the weekend’s activities.
Organisers said the event continues to grow in popularity and remains a key feature of the park’s annual calendar.
