The Buchan Community Garden Relocation has reached a major milestone, with Stage 2 of the project successfully completed during the week of March 23.
The achievement was marked by an impressive show of local collaboration, as residents, businesses and visiting volunteers worked side-by-side to transform the new site.
The project was bolstered by the return of Frontier Services to Buchan.
Working under the coordination of Sharon from Frontier Services, the team of volunteers and community members achieved significant structural goals, including the construction of new footpaths and the installation of a vital new garden shed.
The relocation has been a true community-wide endeavour, with several local businesses and individuals providing essential services and materials:
– Gary Anderson managed the critical concreting works.
– Greg King continued his dedicated efforts in land preparation.
– Granite Rock supplied the rock dust for the new pathways.
– Real Garden provided the topsoil necessary for future planting.
– Kennards Hire facilitated equipment needs.
– Ean Free and Brad Cross lent their expertise to the fencing.
The Buchan Neighbourhood House also played a key role, serving as the social hub for the week by providing morning teas and lunches to keep the hardworking crew fueled and connected.
Reflecting on the progress, organizers praised the community members who donated their time and labor.
“The garden continues to grow, not just in structure but in the connections and community spirit that bring it to life,” a project spokesperson said.
“The time and effort from everyone involved played a vital role in bringing this stage together.”
What’s next for the garden?
As Stage 2 wraps up, the community is already looking toward Stage 3, which promises to further enhance the aesthetic and functional appeal of the space.
Upcoming works include sourcing and installing a rotunda on the newly prepared slab, constructing formal front entry gates and creating a dry river feature featuring rock work, along with a small bridge.
The Buchan Community Garden remains a testament to what can be achieved when regional volunteers and local industry stand together.
The next stage of development is expected to commence shortly, as the garden evolves into a premier community asset.
