Wild Cherry School will open its classrooms to the community next month, inviting families to explore its learning spaces, meet teachers and experience the school’s approach to education.
The 2026 Wild Cherry School and Kindergarten Open Day will be held on Saturday, May 16,
from 9am to 12pm at 28 McKean Street, Bairnsdale.
The K–6 school follows Waldorf/Steiner education principles, with a focus on supporting children to develop into “healthy, purposeful and creative adults” through a learning environment centred on imagination, rhythm and connection.
Visitors on the day will be able to tour classrooms, speak with staff and gain insight into how the school fosters creativity, individuality and a love of learning.
Wild Cherry School said the event is designed to showcase its “gentle rhythms of school life” and provide families with an opportunity to see how students are supported both academically and personally.
The school is located in Bairnsdale, the commercial hub of East Gippsland and a gateway to the Gippsland Lakes, Wilderness Coast and High Country, a setting it says offers an appealing lifestyle for families considering a move to the region.
Teachers will be available throughout the morning to answer questions about curriculum, classroom practice and student wellbeing, with the school emphasising its nurturing environment and community-focused approach.
Wild Cherry School encouraged anyone interested in alternative education pathways, or families exploring schooling options for 2026 and beyond, to attend.
The open day will run as a drop-in event, allowing visitors to wander through the grounds, observe learning spaces and experience the atmosphere of the school firsthand.
