Sunday Sippers returns to the Stratford Courthouse on Sunday, May 24, with free live music from The Kitchen Table Tour.
The Kitchen Table Tour features three award-winning songwriters sitting around a table doing what they do best — performing songs from their extensive solo catalogues, interspersed with interpretations of classic Australian folk songs.
Dave Steel is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer with a long history in Australia’s roots music scene. He was a founding member of Weddings Parties Anything, has released nine solo albums, received several ARIA nominations and worked as a sideman and session musician with many of Australia’s leading performers, including seven years with Archie Roach, as well as Rose Bygrave and Marcia Howard.
Frank Jones was a founding member of The Whirling Furphies and has also released four solo albums. He wrote Melbourne anthem My Brown Yarra.
According to Paul Kelly: “Frank Jones sings songs about people that walk down the same streets I do, cross the same rivers, drink the same brand of beer. Frank writes locally, which makes him a truly international writer. I know the people in his songs. I know their heartache and heartease.”
Raised in Sale, Bill Jackson has established himself as one of Australia’s leading singer-songwriters. He has released eight solo albums and toured North America four times. His album Steel & Bone won Folk Alliance Australia Radio Presenters Album of the Year in 2008. The Wayside Ballads Vol 2 was nominated for a Music Victoria Award in 2016, while The Wayside Ballads Vol 3 won Contemporary Album of the Year at the Australian Folk Music Awards in 2021.
Weather permitting, the performance will take place on the Peppercorn Stage at the rear of the Stratford Courthouse, with the bar opening from 1.30pm and music beginning at 2pm.
The event is free thanks to State Government support through the 10,000 Gigs Victorian Gig Fund.
