Bairnsdale Rowing Club’s annual Head of the Mitchell rowing regatta was held on Saturday, with more than 105 athletes taking to the water from all over Victoria.
Despite the wind, which was predominately behind the rowers when racing, the event was deemed to be a roaring success by both or organisers and competitors.
Rowing clubs from Geelong, Nagambie and Melbourne, joined a large contingent of local rowers, mainly from the Gippsland Grammar on the water for the five kilometre morning race and three kilometre afternoon event.
Rowers of all ages, from teenagers to those in their 70s braved blustery conditions to compete on the day.
Standout results were achieved by Gippsland Grammar students in the male single scull three kilometre race and Melbourne Rowing Club in the mixed masters coxless quad scull event in the five kilometre race.
