Presentation night was held last Saturday night at the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club (GLYC) in Paynesville to wrap up the 89th sailing season.
The event recognises those who have won races and accumulated series points throughout the season, as well as highlighting members who contribute beyond performance and support the club and sailing more broadly.
The club person of the year trophy, chosen by the Commodore, was awarded to Dick Warhurst for his work with new adult and youth members learning to sail, helping improve their confidence and technique.

His efforts are seen as a building block for the future of sailing, providing those who have recently completed sailing courses with opportunities to sail on Sundays in division races, supported by rescue boats and experienced sailors.
Junior minnow sailor Charlotte D’Amore was named young club person of the year, recognised for her strong participation and significant improvement across the season.

Yvonne Francis, who sails the RL “Vintage Red” with husband Mark, was awarded best performing GLYC female sailor of the year, receiving an impressive silver bowl.
At the other end of the age spectrum, David Meldrum, who sails an International 2.4, impressed members with a strong collection of trophies won throughout the year.

Commodore Gary Maskiell wryly reminded members, “You’ve got to be in it to win it.”
Amid the shine of silver trophies, members and guests enjoyed a meal and the opportunity to celebrate together as awards were presented by Maskiell and Sailing Captain Tim Shepperd.
Members now look forward to Friday night soup nights for those not yet heading to warmer climates, along with the monthly Winter Series races and the ongoing Thursday Ancient Mariners stern-chaser events.
