Bairnsdale City Oval is set to become an icy battleground for a cause this Saturday, June 6, as the Bairnsdale Football Netball Club (BFNC) hosts its highly anticipated Big Freeze 12 event.
This year’s fundraiser carries a profound sense of purpose following the recent passing of AFL legend and FightMND founder Neale Daniher AO.
In the wake of his loss, the club and the wider East Gippsland community are pushing to make this year’s event the biggest in its history.
So far, the club has already raised more than $82,500, but the sights are set even higher.
The goal is to eclipse the $100,000 mark for the fourth consecutive year – a staggering achievement for a regional sporting club.
The event serves as a living tribute to Daniher’s “Play On” spirit.
Reflecting on his legacy, the club pointed to a powerful message Daniher delivered in 2017: “People like me come and go. I can tell you now, in a week’s time, you won’t remember a thing I said… But, I hope you remember what I do.”
The Big Freeze festivities will coincide with a major Gippsland League clash on the field as Bairnsdale faces off against Sale.
The signature ice slide is scheduled to commence at 1.40pm.
