Did you know the Eagle Point Community Hall is one of just a handful of entirely community-owned halls still remaining in Victoria?
As the historic local landmark rapidly approaches its centenary milestone, a dedicated group of committee members and volunteers has been working behind the scenes to restore, refurbish, and upgrade the facility.
The hard work has paid off significantly over the past 18 months, with the committee successfully overseeing a major suite of internal and structural improvements.
Key upgrades completed during this period include a full modernisation of the building’s electrical wiring, the installation of brand-new toilets and hand basins, and the replacement of severely degraded windows at the rear of the hall.
The main hall itself has received a significant face-lift, featuring new lighting fixtures, ceiling fans and specialised acoustic panels to improve sound quality during functions.
Additionally, the hall’s old, heavy furniture has been retired, replaced by lightweight, folding, and moveable tables to make the space more versatile for hire groups.
This extensive list of capital works has been funded through a combination of independent hall rental revenue, local community markets, and vital financial grants received from the Paynesville Bendigo Bank and the Paynesville Op Shop.
Despite the impressive progress, committee members note there is still much more to be done to ensure the building survives another century. The committee is now actively inviting new members to join the ranks, welcoming fresh ideas, strategic thoughts, or anyone with spare time to assist with upcoming practical projects, including painting and landscaping.
Locals are being urged to get involved and help preserve the vital community asset as an active hub and landmark well into the future.
