From humble beginnings at a small gathering in 2008, the East Gippsland Photography Society has grown into a thriving creative community of around 50 members.
Based in Bairnsdale, the club prides itself on being a warm, welcoming environment where the focus remains squarely on fun, shared experiences and skill development — regardless of what camera gear members bring to the table.
Members have been out and about across the region recently, making the most of East Gippsland’s diverse landscapes. A group of 13 members spent a weekend in Omeo for a dedicated workshop led by local photographer Jeff Freestone, taking the opportunity to explore nearby Benambra and Cassilis. Other recent field trips have included a day on Raymond Island capturing local koalas and seasonal fungi.
The society hosts bi-monthly photography competitions, regular guest speakers, monthly outings, and weekend trips away throughout the year.
The club’s annual general meeting (AGM) will be held at 7pm, tonight (Wednesday, July 22), in the meeting room at Club Eastwood, 117 Great Alpine Road, Lucknow.
In addition to AGM business, the evening will feature a special presentation on panorama photography and the presentation of the club’s memorial trophies. Regular meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
The June competition focused on phone photography and was judged by three members of the Sale Camera Club. Results were as follows:
