Despite some wayward kicking in front of goal (16.27), Wy Yung outclassed an undermanned Stratford by 104 points in round 13 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League at Bullumwaal Road on Saturday.
The Swans made the trip east without experienced players Jarryd Clohessy, Alex Morcom, Jesse Broadbent, Zac Perkins and Max Lazzaro, who have all played a major role in the side’s improved form in recent weeks.
In their absence, under 18 players Blake Ross, Josh Gibb, Monty Mayman and Hunter Appleton all debuted at senior level, alongside teammates Campbell Hanna and Kobe Higgins in just their second games.
The Tigers utilised the breeze to their advantage in the first term, kicking five unanswered majors to lead by 35 points at quarter time, while holding the Swans scoreless against the stiff wind.
Wy Yung struggled for accuracy in the second term, kicking 2.9 into the breeze despite dominating inside-50 entries and creating numerous scoring opportunities.
Coach Brodie Anderson was pleased with how his side maintained possession and structure throughout the second term despite the misfiring radar.
The second half followed a similar pattern as the Tigers bombarded the forward arc, though Swans youngsters were rewarded for their persistence with a couple of second-half goals.
Jack Betts led the goalscoring for Wy Yung with five majors, building strong form as the 2026 finals approach.
Consistent performer Harry Kellow chipped in with three goals, as did coach Brodie Anderson in his best forward-50 contribution of the season.
Best players were plentiful for Wy Yung, with the coaching staff singling out Betts, Jett Murphy, Harry Kellow, Jack Hodson, Tim Daniel and Jai Nicholls.
Jack Ronalds, Russell White, Joshua Gibb, Ned Conway, Campbell Hanna and Kobi Taylor all battled hard for the Swans on a tough afternoon.
Gibb, Conway and Hanna showed plenty of promise in their senior debuts, while Mayman was rewarded with a goal.
The Tigers travel to take on Orbost Snowy Rovers this week with both sides desperate for four points.
Wy Yung will aim to keep Lindenow at bay in the race for the top two, while the Blues are keen to protect their ladder position against arch-rival Lakes Entrance in the battle for fourth spot.
