East Gippsland Music performed at the 42nd Merimbula Jazz Festival over the King’s Birthday long weekend, with 30 members from various bands joining together to form the East Gippsland Brass (and friends) Big Band.
It was a great weekend with the band playing to a packed audience on Saturday and Sunday, covering many classic jazz pieces, solo artists and the vocal talents of Gaylene Bruce accompanying the band.
This festival has become one of the biggest events East Gippsland Music participates in and many musicians look forward to attending each year.
East Gippsland Brass also recently competed in the annual Sale Eisteddfod, coming second in the brass section, which was a great reward for all the hard work put in and extra rehearsals.
East Gippsland Music now shifts its attention to its next concert, which is part of the East Gippsland Winter Festival, a concert at St Mary’s Church on Sunday, June 23, at 2pm.
This concert will showcase the talents of the training band, Symphonia, brass and Gentlemen’s Choir over two hours. Then all four groups will combine to present two pieces with the Gentlemen’s Choir forefront. This is sure to be a spectacular concert set in a lovely venue, and East Gippsland Music is proud to support the Winter Festival, which continues to grow each year.
Gold coin entry fee. Head along for a great afternoon of jazz and pizzazz music starting at 2pm, which will conclude with afternoon tea provided by the Bower Birds for a donation of $5.
