Lindenow South has breathed new life into the 2024 Omeo and District Football League, with an impressive 19-point win over Omeo Benambra, who for the first nine rounds looked almost invincible.
Both sides went in with strong lineups, but they are likely to be significant changes to the line ups prior to the presentation of the premiership cup on the last day of August.
Lindenow South dominated the inside 50s in the first term, but were off target, wasting several opportunities, the Swampies eight point margin at quarter time flattering the Alpine Ranges, who were left scratching their heads at the first change.
Both sides found their mojo in the second term as the game went to another level, every challenge that Omeo threw at the Swampies, they either matched or counter punched.
By quarters end, Lindenow South had added six goals to Omeo’s three, and the hunter had a more than handy 25-point lead over the hunted.
The second half became a battle of the defences, with only five goals scored, both sides having plenty of opportunities, but were unable to convert, as the Swampies defended its outstanding output in the second term diligently.
Lindenow South hanging on to win a torrid and willing game, which won senses might be a prelude to something pretty special in the back end of the season.
Russell White turned back the clock for the Swampies, kicking three goals, while the competitions leading sharp shooter, Harry Warfe, added two to his seasons total, which now stands at 54.
Nathan Pollard was back to damaging best for Lindenow South, joined in the best by Shane Thorpe, Jacob Petrac, Warren Martin, Griffin Sherritt and the stoic Mitchell Neal.
Ross Ansaldi again led from the Ranges, getting great support from the lively Aiden Hayward and Warfe who continues to spend more time on the ball to drop the hard checking defenders.
Backmen Christopher Wheeler and Daniel Jones racked up plenty of possessions, while Campbell Ahsamwas clearly the best big man on the ground.
