There will be many warm and cosy children this winter, thanks to the generosity of the Bairnsdale Kindergarten community.
With the cost of living and increased financial stress, many local families are doing it tough this winter season. So much so, simply ensuring young ones are rugged up against the cold can be a financial challenge.
This stress will be eased with the donation of 50 warm winter children’s coats from Bairnsdale Kindergarten to Uniting’s East Bairnsdale Community Hub.
East Bairnsdale Community Hub coordinator Lisa Lightowler is touched by the gesture.
“The donation of winter clothing has been important for the families struggling with the cost of living,” she said.
“It is just wonderful to see the generosity of people wanting to share their good quality clothing with others.
“It is such a saving for families and creates an environment of care and support for those who are struggling financially.”
Bairnsdale Kindergarten vommittee member, Jessica Henderson, has been humbled by the support of the kinder community.
“We run numerous donation drives throughout the year for those in need and our community has consistently been very generous,” she said.
“It is wonderful knowing that our children are helping 50 other children stay warm this winter.”
The East Bairnsdale Community Hub is a vital one-stop shop for families experiencing hardship and provides free open pantry staples such as fresh fruit and vegetables, pasta, rice, milk, lentils, cereals plus hygiene products and second hand essentials.
Those who would like to support the East Bairnsdale Community Hub are encouraged to make contact with Uniting.
