Bairnsdale domination

24 June 2019
in Local News

Bairnsdale’s Judy Kool and Cam White dominated the competition at the Geelong Classic Racquetball Championships last weekend, winning the women’s and men’s open titles respectively.

At the Leisuretime Centre in Norlane, the pair were simply unstoppable and didn’ t drop a game on their way to the another piece of silverware.

A 17-time Australian Open champion, White breezed past Tom Kelson 21-18 21-7 in the quarter finals after a round one bye. He advanced past Peter French 21-13 21-13 in the semi finals with ease before facing Steve Andrewartha in the final.

The match commenced at a hectic pace with both players unrelenting in their pursuit of claiming every point available, but it was the virtually error free White who took control early. He never relinquished his lead and claimed the first game 21/11.

The second game also opened at a frenetic pace, but this time Andrewartha held firm until White found another gear when the game was there to be won.

White displayed an array of shots, which broke the gallant Andrewartha leading him to seizing the second game and the title 2117.

The win meant White’s 18-year winning streak continued.

With an impressive resume that includes seven Australian Open titles, Kool added her fourth Geelong title in a row with two wins in her group.

In her first match, Kool swept 2018 National Grand Prix champion, Sue Dunlop, 21-8 21-7 and then topped Sylvia Tiet 21-12 21-3 to secure the title.

In the past four years Kool has only been denied the top honour in women’s open events four times and there was no stopping her this time as she was simply too good for the rest of the field.
