Lucknow Football Netball Club successfully hosted a Road Safety Round last Saturday as part of it’s East Gippsland Football Netball League round 14 clash with arch nemesis, Wy Yung.
The Magpies hosted the impactful day in partnership with AFL Victoria and the TAC, with the event marked by a strong turnout, the community coming together to support the important cause of road safety.
On the field the players donned blue “Band Together” armbands as a tribute to the lives lost on the road and to serve as a reminder of the shared responsibility in preventing road accidents.
A highlight of the day was the moving presentation at 11am by Chelsea Wellman, a former Lucknow netballer, and her father, Steven.
They shared their personal story of loss, recounting the tragic accident in 2022 that claimed the life of their brother and son, Koby, aged 22, due to speeding and distraction while driving.
Chelsea and Steven’s heartfelt testimony resonated deeply with attendees, underscoring the devastating impact of unsafe driving practices.
The courage shown by the Wellman family was met with overwhelming support and appreciation from the community.
Lucknow Football Netball Club extended its gratitude to Chelsea, Steven, Vanessa, Tyler, Ben, and Tillie and everyone who attended and supported the event.
