Monday, July 22, saw the spirit of community engagement materialise in the dedication of two new seats at the Paynesville Cemetery.
The Paynesville Cemetery Trust identified the need for two additional bench seats in the newly opened section and niche wall area of the cemetery.
Following discussions with the Bairnsdale Special School, the trust approached the Community Bank Paynesville and District for funding.
The Bendigo Bank’s unique model of community-owned and operated banking in Australia means funding is available through the local community branch’s sponsorship program for worthwhile projects.
During the bank’s 18th anniversary of operating in Paynesville in December 2023, the Cemetery Trust secured the necessary funds for the school students to make the seats, with installation delayed until early 2024.
On Monday the woodwork students who made the seats, the representatives from Community Bank Paynesville, and trust members were able to recognise this contribution to the Paynesville community.
The trust thanked both the Bairnsdale Special School students and the Community Bank Paynesville for their contribution to this worthwhile community project.
