Bairnsdale reserves continued their push for a top three spot and a vital double chance, with an emphatic 127-point victory at home over Warragul in round 15 of the Gippsland Football Netball League.
The Redlegs currently sit in fourth place, trailing third-placed Traralgon by just percentage, which improved significantly after Saturday’s decisive thrashing.
It was a consistent performance by Bairnsdale, who put the game out of range of the Warragul early in the contest, with an 11 goal to one, initial half of team football.
The immensely talented, Logan Dunkley was again outstanding, kicking eight goals in an extraordinary performance in the forward 50, well supported by Jamie Dore, Nato Desio and pacy youngster, Jobe Froud, who all kicked three goals.
Dunkley was joined in the best by Reece Carstairs, Jason Waddell, Max Neate and father/son combination, Bryan and Jobe Froud.
Ladder leader, Warragul outclassed Bairnsdale in thirds match, winning by 129 points, the sixth ranked Redlegs, no match for the pace and carry of the impressive Gulls.
The Redlegs were restricted to a disappointing two goals, with Neate, Oliver Emmett, Ethan Gallasch, Riley Lieuwen, Charlie Cook and Ned Nugent-Brown named amongst the best players, but positional winners on the day were difficult to find.
The fifth-ranked Bairnsdale fourth side returned to their best form after two disappointing losses to Maffra and Moe.
The Redlegs youngsters were quick out of blocks, slotting six goals to one in a fast paced first term on the way to a well earned 56 point victory.
Jobe Froud and Chiti Otuonye were both in good touch around the goals, both cleverly slotting three majors.
Amongst the better players were skipper, Douglas Ashby, Jobe Froud, Harry McGuinn, Kael Frith, Jack Cullinan and the hard working Luca Desio.
