Wy Yung has claimed the East Gippsland under 12 junior football premiership after a convincing display against a gallant Lindenow.
The Tigers were the better side in the first three terms and despite being challenged late, held on for a 21-point victory.
At the last break Wy Yung led 42-13 after controlling the first three quarters, holding Lindenow scoreless in the first as it kicked three goals.
The Tigers got the first goal of the final term as Max Neate rammed home a major in the goal square, stretching the Tigers’ lead out to 35 points Lindenow cut the lead back to 28 with Archie Irish taking a mark and nailing a goal in the square.
Kobe Smith’s hard work was rewarded as he earned a high tackle free kick straight in front of the goals.
He made no mistake from the set shot and the Cats trailed by 21.
While Lindenow tried its best to claw its way back into the match, the Tigers were too good from the outset and walked away with the flag.
Zac O’Keefe was brilliant for Lindenow and collected plenty of touches at the coalface, especially in the fourth quarter, when his side made a late charge.
The Tigers’ Ryan Cullinan received the best-on-ground medal for a spectacular performance though the midfield.
Max Neate booted four goals for the victors, while Archie Irish led the way for the Cats with three.
Wy Yung got the better of Lindenow on both occasions during the season and started in similar fashion as Lindenow struggled to find any momentum.
The Cats’ effort could not be faltered against an opponent that was simply on fire, considering they earned their spot in the decider following consecutive do-or-die finals victories.
