The Australian Native Plant Society of East Gippsland annual general meeting will be held at 1.30 pm on Wednesday, July 24, at the Hub, corner of Dalmahoy and Service Streets Bairnsdale.
Guest speaker is Vicki Leris who owns and manages the Wild Seed Nursery. She has been collecting material and seeds from local plants since 2000 for revegetation projects across East Gippsland and Victoria.
The subject of her talk is the East Gippsland seed bank. The seed bank has been set up as a Landcare project and aims to have a range of seeds for general revegetation projects as well after major natural disasters.
It aims to have seeds from a wide range of local plants including many of the rare and endangered plants that grow in East Gippsland.
As the motto of the Australian Plants Society is “Preservation by Propagation” the subject is of great importance to us.
The society encourages you to hear Vicki’s talk as it promises to be fascinating and informative.
The society will have a brief annual general meeting to elect nominated candidates.
