A vibrant community celebration was enjoyed by students, teachers and the entire school community at Wild Cherry Steiner School’s Harvest, Holi and Harmony Day celebrations at the end of term one.
The lively community came together to celebrate multiculturalism with artistic activities, a vibrant colour run and a delicious feast generously donated by Bairnsdale’s Desi Grill Indian restaurant.
“Annually celebrating each season connects children and community to the natural world and grows their respect and appreciation for nature their surroundings and is an important part of connecting the school community. A great big thank you to Desi Grill for their donation of food for the shared feast,” school leader Johanna said.
The Holi festival brought to life the study of ancient India for class five children and they were able to celebrate Indian culture with rich history, food and enjoying a wonderfully colorful colour run. The study of ancient cultures including norse, roman and Greek mythology is a wonderful aspect of the accredited Steiner Curriculum for classes four-six delivered by dedicated teachers at Wild Cherry Steiner School Bairnsdale.
The school ensemble including violin, cello and violas played for friends and families and each class sang songs of the season. The lively traditional bamboo dance of India and the Philippines was performed by the children and attempted by the parents. Parents and friends joined the children for the afternoon’s activities of weaving, chalk drawing and mandala making.
A festival wouldn’t be complete without a feast and Desi Grill Indian restaurant provided a colourful and delicious lunch. The school thanked Desi Grill for their generous donation.
