East Gippsland Water’s managing director Steve McKenzie, a respected leader in the water industry, has made the decision not to seek a further term as the corporation’s managing director.
Steve joined East Gippsland Water in October 2018. He informed the board late last year that he has decided not to seek another term when his contract expires so he can take time to travel and pursue other passions. He will remain in his position while the recruitment for a new managing director takes place.
“Steve has been an integral part of East Gippsland Water for the past six years. With over 40 years’ experience, he has led significant strategic change initiatives for the organisation and possesses a deep understanding of the complex challenges facing the water sector, including customer demands, regulatory requirements, economic factors and corporate governance,” board chairperson, Therese Tierney, said.
“He has led East Gippsland Water through challenging times, including catastrophic bushfires in 2019, a two-year global pandemic starting in 2020 and extreme shifts in weather from record drought to record wet. Throughout Steve has remained focussed on the safety and well-being of East Gippsland Water’s people, best practice asset management and the sustainable investment in reliable services to our customers, to ensure we meet the demands of population growth and climate change.
“The board has greatly valued Steve’s contributions and wise counsel during his tenure and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
“While we are sad to see Steve go, we are excited about the future and have commenced recruitment for a new managing director to drive innovation, foster growth and deliver exceptional value to our customers.”
