For the past 20 years the local community has come together for a fundraising breakfast to support Rotary Centenary House and this year the Rotary Club of Mitchell River once again hosted the event at the St Mary’s Parish Centre.
“The generous support of the Parish Centre, local businesses, service groups and individuals are an integral part of the success of our breakfast.”event coordinator, Rotarian Leanne Jennings said.
“Numbers were up on last year and will no doubt continue to grow reflecting our community’s recognition of Centenary House’s value.”
The concept of Rotary Centenary House was first raised by a Rotarian who was involved in Ronald McDonald House and with the initial plans drawn on a serviette at a meeting of the Churchill Rotary Club the idea moved to become a reality.
And the name Rotary Centenary House commemorates the centenary of Rotary.
Rotary Centenary House was opened in September 2006 with the first patients taking up residence within two days.
Rotarian Terry White, current president of the Rotary Club of Mitchell River has the auspicious record of having manned the barbecue at each of the breakfasts since 2004, an amazing example of commitment to the community.
At the club’s meeting last Monday, president Terry, always quick to deflect attention from himself, was full of praise for his fellow Rotarians who ensure the ongoing success of the fundraising event and was proud to handover to local Rotary Centenary House stalwart supporter Leigh Venables the sum of $10,000 as the proceeds from the fundraising breakfast.
