St Mary’s Church Bairnsdale was alive to the sound of music as choirs from one end of East Gippsland to the other came together to celebrate the 26th Choral Festival.
The event brought a rich and varied program to the packed audience, who demonstrated their enthusiastic appreciation with thunderous applause.
The program was as diverse as the choirs themselves, providing something that was totally different. Even the accompanying music was not always on keyboard – out came flutes, drums, guitars, even using their feet to stamp out the beat.
What it did say about the choirs of East Gippsland is how fortunate it is to have such variety, such talent, and absolute dedication to the joy of music.
Performing were The Bairnsdale Gentlemen’s Choir, Lakes Entrance Girl Singers, Metung Singers, AlleyCats Community Choir, Stratford Singers and Nowa Nowa Mens Choir.
A delicious devonshire tea was served in the Parish Hall by St Mary’s which added to this wonderful afternoon, of song, laughter, and good fellowship.
All choirs would love to have new members.
If interested, you can ring Keith Ford (details via the Advertiser) coordinator of the festival who will supply you with that contact number of choirs.
They now begin planning the 27th Choral Festival.
