Yachts, cruisers, ski boats, tinnies, runabouts and jet skis will grace the Gippsland Lakes on November 3 to participate in a poker run, raising funds for Gippsland Farmer Relief.
The inaugural poker run is the brainchild of Paynesville Classic Boat Rally president, Peter Medling, and is aimed at helping struggling local farmers.
Gippsland Lakes Poker run committee member, James Blandford, said organisers hoped to raise $30,000.
“If we had 100 boats registered that would be sensational,” Mr Blandford said.
“We currently have 32 registered, which equates to more than 100 crew already, but we’ll cap it at 200.”
The poker run will visit five places across the Gippsland Lakes to receive a playing card, with destinations to be advised, weather-permitting.
Crews also have the opportunity to better the hand they are dealt, provided they splash a bit of cash about.
Paynesville Yacht Club is the starting point where boats will leave at two-minute intervals.
The entry fee is $60 for six people and there is a boat limit of 10 people, with a $10/head fee for any more than six.
After the poker run there will be live entertainment by local band, The Rogues, at the yacht club with a presentation.
Mr Blandford said food vans had been organised although more were welcome to sign up.
“Sponsorship packages are also still available and anyone can donate to the cause,” he said.
Registrations for the poker run can be made through the event’s facebook page, GL Poker Run, from Monday.
Here’s hoping for a full house.
