Police are investigating after a car allegedly rammed an ambulance in Lindenow last Wednesday, September 26, the accused driver set to face court in Bairnsdale this week.
Emergency services were transporting a woman to hospital and had reason to stop on the side of the road near the intersection of Bairnsdale-Dargo Road and Windmill Lane about 1.30pm.
Shortly after that time, the ambulance was allegedly rammed by a white Toyota Landcruiser.
No one was injured as a result of the collision and the male driver was arrested at the scene. The woman, aged 33, was taken to hospital as planned for observation.
The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old man, is understood to be known to the woman.
He has been charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, criminal damage, assault against emergency workers together with various driving and weapons offences.
The man has been remanded to appear at Bairnsdale Magistrates’ Court this Wednesday.
The State Government passed new laws last month that crack down on people who attack and injure emergency workers on duty by making sure they are given a custodial sentence, as well as further limiting the use of community correction orders.
The Justice Legislation Miscellaneous Amendment Bill 2018 makes injuring an emergency worker – including police, paramedics, doctors and nurses delivering or supporting emergency care, firefighters and prison officers- a category 1 offence under the Sentencing Act 1991.
