Bengworden Fire Brigade now has a cordon bleu barbecue among its equipment thanks to a donation from John and Melissa Gardiner.
Melissa contacted the Bairnsdale CFA District office to ask if a barbecue would be needed at any of the local fire brigades, which led to the Bengworden brigade indicating a barbecue would be a valued resource and provide an opportunity to bring people together to talk.
The Gardiner family has a history and connection to fire brigades in other areas of Victoria – a father was a captain at Belgrave South, and some members currently in the Bengworden Brigade have transferred to the brigade from the Pakenham area.
“The barbecue will provide a greater opportunity for our members to develop our connections with each other after training and responding to emergencies,” brigade captain, Keith Hayles, said.
“Everyone is busy in their lives and feels the time pressure to get things done while still contributing to their chosen community group and fire brigades are no different.
“The barbecue is gratefully received and will be put to good use. The Gardiner’s thoughtfulness made this generous donation possible. On behalf of the Bengworden Fire Brigade and members, thank you.”
