Visitors will be hard pressed to find a park or a place to stay in Omeo this weekend, as offroad motorbike riders from across the nation descend on the hillside village for rounds 11 and 12 of the 2018 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC).
The official enduro championship of Motorcycling Australia, the AORC is both nationally and internationally recognised as producing top level off-road riders nd is a platform where the country’s best competitors and officials combine to put on Australia’s biggest off-road show.
The event is a combined competition, with both the Australian and Victorian off-road championships coming together for the weekend.
The event is estimated to bring a large contingent of people to Omeo, with 250 to 300 riders racing each day.
The season appears set for a climactic finish with the likes of KTM Australia’s Daniel Milner and Husqvarna’s Lachlan Stanford among those competing for top spots. Cross-country racing takes place on Saturday, while the sprint racing is on Sunday.
The AORC is an international stepping stone for Australian off-road racing talent, producing many champions who have gone on to ride at an international level. Many have gone on to win world championships, representing Australian in the International Six Day Enduro.
Set in the picturesque Omeo countryside, the AORC is about rider and bike versus the elements and natural terrain, as competitors race through tight bush trails and fast open tracks.
The course consists of an off canvas, flat grass track, and a rocky, bushy and technical track.
