Tony Burgess will be leading the September ride for the Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club this Sunday.
The ride will head into the adjacent Mount Alfred State Forest, which has an abundance of riding tracks and trails.
Tony has mapped out a ride that will include a variety of terrain.
Horses need to be shod or booted due to rocky terrain. There will also be a couple of short steep sections descending into ferny gullies before climbing back up onto rocky ridges.
The riders will leave from the property of Tony and his partner Rhonda at 630 Rodericks Road, Flaggy Creek.
Riders must attend a pre-ride muster at 9.45 before heading out for the day at 10am. Please bring a saddlebag lunch.
The recent August ride for the Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club was at The Barn at Calajero on Iguana Creek.
The ride had 15 riders saddle up for the day. Members attended from far afield, Woodside in the south west right through to Lakes Entrance in the east.
Laura Szabo from Ellaswood joined in for her first club ride on her lovely brown mare “Tess”. They handled the ride like old timers and are sure to be seen out with the club again.
Mel Farley and Danja Ypelaan both travelled up from the Sale area to join in. Lionel Rose from Fernbank is enjoying his riding on his paint bred horse “Chucky”.
The route featured shaded gullies, rocky creeks with tree ferns and high ridges with great views.
The horses moved along nicely and there was lots of chatter among the group enjoying each other’s company and the environment.
The terrain was rocky and steep in places and kept the horses focused on the job with plenty of natural obstacles and challenges to negotiate safely.
After a break for lunch the horses sensed they were headed for home and picked up the pace however, all soon settled and fell into a good steady gait.
On returning to the floats the horses were tended to firstly before the riders enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. Floats were loaded and the group headed off home after a challenging and satisfying day.

Tambo rides are held on the third Sunday of every month and are suitable for most standards.
Visitors are welcome and juniors are also encouraged but must be accompanied by a guardian and able to ride independently. For more information contact Caroline Driscoll or Sue Cullinan (details via the Bairnsdale Advertiser office).
