Fortnightly calligraphy sessions at the Book Nook Café have become quite popular, with the next gathering scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, from 10am to 12.30pm.
These meetings offer an opportunity for attendees to practice the art of calligraphy and illumination.
Everyone starts by learning English Batarde, a form of Black Letter Script.
Once they become familiar with the stroke sequences, they gradually progress through other variations of Black Letter Script.
As participants gain proficiency, they move on to styles like Copperplate in Pointed Pen Script.
The workshops are open to people of all ages and if there is enough demand then evening classes will be available.
All necessary materials, including practice sheets, are provided, and pens are available for loan.
The sessions also cover important topics such as proper cleaning, basic maintenance and care tips to ensure the pens’ longevity and performance.
Fountain pen repair services are also offered for attendees at the workshops.
Starting Tuesday, October 15, the calligraphy and illumination workshops will be available fortnightly from 12.30pm to 3.30pm through U3A Bairnsdale. Additionally, discussions are underway with the East Gippsland Shire Library to offer calligraphy classes at regional centres in East Gippsland.
For anyone interested in clock and watch repair, Danny Anderson will be offering fortnightly workshops through U3A Bairnsdale beginning Tuesday, October 8, from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. For bookings contact Bairnsdale U3A.
These workshops will cover proper cleaning, basic maintenance and care tips to ensure better performance and longevity. Attendees are also encouraged to bring in clocks and watches that are not working for fault finding, identification of necessary repairs, and referrals to local clock and watch repair specialists.
