The Bairnsdale Secondary College year eight resilience camp at Camp Coolamatong was an unforgettable experience that left a lasting impact on all students.
The spring camp was designed to foster resilience and respect, key qualities for students as they navigate the challenges of adolescence.
The Reach Foundation played a pivotal role by conducting workshops that focused on building respect and resilience. This workshop gave students some tools to develop their emotional strength, improve their relationships and understand the importance of treating others with kindness and empathy.
In addition to the workshops, a series of adventure activities further encouraged the development of resilience. From team-building exercises to individual challenges, each activity was designed to push students out of their comfort zones, teaching them how to persevere, adapt and work together as a team.
The thrill of the activities, such as abseiling, canoeing and low ropes, provided valuable lessons in overcoming obstacles, managing fear and fatigue and developing confidence in their abilities.
The supportive and encouraging environment allowed students to reflect on their own strengths and areas for growth.
Camp Coolamatong’s welcoming and invested staff, stunning natural setting and top-notch facilities greatly enhanced the camp experience.
Both school and camp staff were always available to support the students, offering guidance, encouragement and a positive attitude throughout the camp. The facilities, including comfortable cabins and communal spaces, ensured a comfortable stay, while the delicious food provided energy and motivation for the day’s activities.
The year eight resilience camp was a huge success. Students left with a deeper understanding of resilience and respect, as well as a greater sense of camaraderie with their peers.
It was an unforgettable experience that equipped them with valuable life skills as they negotiate their individual pathways toward their futures.
