The 2024 South Pines Golf Club Championships were finalised with the playing of the final round last Saturday, with Simon Groves crowned the champion.
Groves posted scores of 79, 80 and 87 to hang on for a two-shot victory over the fast-finishing Nick Mitchell and Gary Thorpe, who finished with final rounds of 85 and 80 respectively.
In the finish it was Groves’ eagle on the 14th hole that ultimately secured him victory.
Thorpe was the winner of the handicap section.
Craig Kerr was a dominant winner of “B” grade, his final round of 82 ensuring a 15-shot victory over Mark Churches.
His efforts were enough to take the handicap award as well.
Ralph Wall was a commanding winner in “C” grade, his final two rounds, sub 100 scores, seeing him finish with a score of 300, 18 shots ahead of Miles Malcolm.
Wall also won the handicap event and the veteran championship.
The daily event was won by Rodney Moreland, who shot a 76 off the stick for a net 70.
