Debbie Blennerhassett is a photographer based in the Red Gum Plains, East Gippsland, specialising in landscape photography.
Born in the coastal town of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, living near the beach as a young girl Debbie found solace in her photography and her love for adventure.
In her early years Debbie quickly honed her skills studying as an apprentice under Bernard Hoffman, the famous LIFE Magazine photographer, mastering her skills in darkroom development and black and white photography.
Allowing her adventurous soul to take the wheel, she headed to the west coast of the United States to study photography. An opportunity became available to work as a photo journalist, and darkroom specialist in Oregon and Washington State, for a newspaper which she quickly took the opportunity.
About 10 years later Debbie and her camera took off to the South Island of New Zealand where she photographed New Zealand for the Timaru Herald Newspaper for three years exploring the news and beauty of NZ.
Leaving NZ she headed to Australia where she now resides as a photographer.
Over the past 38 years of living in Australia, she has explored landscapes from the coast to alpine. Debbie has a passion for sharing the beauty of the East Gippsland landscape with her photographic adventures for its hidden gems.
Debbie loves being one with nature, photographing its stunning beauty, immersing herself into the landscape, developing a connection listening to the sounds surrounding her, reacting to the light and composition before her.
Debbie prides herself in keeping the images true to what was photographed.
Debbie’s work is currently on display at Paper Chase Cafe in Bairnsdale.
