Local triathlete Charlotte McShane has ended her world triathlon racing career after 162 starts over 14 years.
The past few years have been really tough for McShane. After suffering from back and nerve pain in 2018, she has struggled to get back to the level she was at prior, despite pouring everything emotionally and physically into the journey.
Despite recent years being not very enjoyable, it was still a tough decision for her to take the step away, but she is now comfortable with that path.
She has been humbled by the support along the way, particularly through the tough times and will be forever grateful for the incredible people who have invested time and energy into getting her healthy again and while it may not show yet, she is positive it will in other ways.
There have been numerous career highlights, including representing Australia at 12 world championship grand finals and two Commonwealth games.
She was an under 23 world champion and mixed relay world champion, as well as world triathlon championship series grand final bronze medalist.
Major victories include French Grand Prix, Bundesliga series, British super series, the London triathlon, Italian Grand Prix and whole heap of basque races.
McShane was also the reserve in three Olympic games.
McShane, who has been holidaying locally, will definitely still be around triathlon and has some exciting goals that will be announced soon.
