Excitement is building in Bairnsdale as Kmart and Dan Murphy’s complete the finishing touches on their respective megastores that are primed to open next month.
The new Kmart building is now well advanced toward completion and was last week being fitted out with lighting.
A Kmart spokesperson confirmed the new store will now open on June 22, no doubt to much fanfare from the local community who have been anxiously awaiting its arrival.
The retailer spent 15 years in its original premises on Nicholson Street (now Woolworths), before being issued with a notice to vacate in September 2020.
Shockwaves rippled through the town at the news with a petition circulated to save Kmart attracting 1700 signatures.
