Teeing off

Talented young Bairnsdale golfer, Noah Paterson, is hoping to cap off what has been a stellar year at the School Sports Australia (SSA) National Golf Championship.

Noah gained selection for the School Sports Victoria 12 and under state team after carding 40 stableford points at the Golf Victoria junior qualifying event held at Sandhurst Golf Club in August.

Eight boys and four girls were selected to compete in the SSA National Championships to be held next week on the Bellarine Peninsula.

The competition, with three rounds over five days, will be played at Portarlington, Queenscliff and Curlewis golf clubs.

A grade six student at St Mary’s Primary School, Noah will be competing against the country’ s finest young golfing talent from South Australia, New South Wales, the ACT and Queensland.

Along with his teammates, Noah will be trying his best to bring home a national title to Bairnsdale.

Over the past 12 months Noah has built up quite a trophy cabinet, including:

  • Five-time winner of Golf Victoria rookie series events.
  • SSV regional champion
  • Bairnsdale Golf Club “D” grade club champion and nett club champion.
  • Bairnsdale Golf Club monthly medal winner (April and October).
  • Bairnsdale Golf Club four-ball knockout champion (with Les Coles).

Noah’s recent success comes as no surprise. He has put in a lot of hard work and travelled more than 12,500 kilometres this year, to both practice and compete in numerous Golf Victoria events throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Noah and his family thank Bairnsdale Golf Club for its support, the encouragement and assistance he’s received from the committee, junior program, club professional, Wayne Thomas, and the members themselves, which has been both overwhelming and greatly appreciated.

Noah also thanked both Bairnsdale Golf Club president, Stephen Mann, and David Pollard, for their generosity and encouragement in his golfing endeavors.

Noah has become the third grade six student at St Mary’s Primary School to achieve state representative honors at School Sports Australia Championships this year, following in the footsteps of Jayke Andrews-Hei (Australian Rules football) and Ash Nichols (swimming), who both competed earlier this year with great success in their respective championships.
