Bairnsdale has taken centre stage as national anti-bullying charity Dolly’s Dream came to town to film its latest TV commercial.
Filming took place from Wednesday, January 29 to Friday, January 31, featuring local residents including Carlee Knight from Bairnsdale Horse Centre, who has been instrumental in rallying the community for this important project.
One of the filming locations included Eagle Point Primary School, which became a sea of blue last Thursday as students, parents and teachers getting involved in a chalk fight.
The commercial will help promote Do It For Dolly Day, a national campaign that takes place on Friday May 9 to help put an end to bullying and creating a kinder, more inclusive world.
The TV commercial will highlight the power of community and the role everyone plays in standing against bullying.
Carlee’s efforts have helped bring the town of Bairnsdale together, ensuring the commercial is a true reflection of the local spirit.
“It’s been incredible to see everyone come together for such an important cause,” Carlee said.
“Dolly’s Dream is about creating change, and it’s inspiring to know our town will continue to play a part in spreading that message nationwide.”
Dolly’s Dream was established by Kate and Tick Everett to honour the memory of their daughter Dolly Everett, who tragically took her young life at 14 years of age after being subjected to ongoing bullying. Dolly’s Dream delivers support services, programs and resources nationally to educate and empower communities, schools, and families to help prevent bullying.
Head of Dolly’s Dream, Sally Sweeney, said Bairnsdale’s involvement demonstrates the impact of communities coming together to create change.
“The people of Bairnsdale have been long-time supporters of Dolly’s Dream and we are thrilled to collaborate with them in sharing this story of hope and resilience,” Sally said.
“This commercial will amplify the message that we all have a role to play in ending bullying.”
Residents of Bairnsdale may have noticed the filming taking place around town over the three days, with local landmarks and faces set to feature prominently in the final production.
The TV commercial will be a key part of raising awareness and inspiring action across the nation.
Do It For Dolly Day will take place on May 9, inviting Australian communities to come together to remember Dolly by going blue (Dolly’s favourite colour), donating and participating in fundraising activities to help support the important anti-bullying work of Dolly’s Dream, sharing the message to be kind and speak even if your voice shakes.
