Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company’s upcoming musical Come From Away, opening at The Forge Theatre on Friday, May 2, is a story about people from all over the world, thrown together in the most extraordinary of circumstances.
It’s a story about compassion, generosity, faith and the determination of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
It’s also a story about love – love for family and for strangers.
The experience of being stranded in a
small town for five days with nearly 7000 other passengers can test the most enduring
of relationships.
But it can also forge new friendships and romances with the most unexpected people.
One such romance in Come From Away is that between English businessman, Nick, and Texas divorcee Diane.
This real-life couple from opposite sides of the world met when their planes were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland on September 11, 2001.
In the role of love-struck Nick is Jack Andrewartha, a relative newcomer to Production Line’s roster of talented local actors.
Most recently Jack was seen in the challenging role of Biff, in Death of a Salesman.
“I’m rather more nervous this time round than I was for Salesman,” Jack said.
“Biff was a lot of dialogue and emotionally heavy to deliver, but as Nick, I have to
sing a duet with Kate. “That’s a lot more daunting to me.”
Of course Jack is referring to Kate Young, who delivers a fantastic Texas drawl as Diane.
“I’m okay with the duet part, I love an opportunity to belt out a tune and I just love Stop the World, it’s such a sweet song”, Kate said.
Time is fast running out to secure opening night tickets to see how Diane and Nick stop the world.
Come From Away will open on Friday, May 2, for a total of 10 performances over three weekends, concluding on Sunday, May 18.
