At 1.30pm on Wednesday, May 28, in Room 7 of The Hub in Bairnsdale, the Australian Native Plants Society of East Gippsland (ANPSEG) will be hosting Chris Clarke, who will be talking on Alpine Flora of Victoria.
Chris has been leading trips to Victoria’s alpine regions for some 20 years and has some beautiful images of alpine wildflowers, butterflies and interesting insects.
The best flowering season in the alps is in January as a late “spring” and the flora has adapted to be buried under snow in winter or to reproduce each year.
The fields of wildflowers are vast with the size of alpine bioregion being around 12,300 square kilometres and the plants species are different from lowland flora.
Some 1100 different species of plants can be found in Victoria’s Alpine National Park – with dozens found nowhere else in
the world.
Afternoon tea will be provided along with a door prize, donated by Bulls Botanics, for one
lucky attendee.
Everyone is welcome.
