Morwell outclassed Bairnsdale in Gippsland League round nine reserves action last Saturday at the Morwell Recreation Reserve.
The Redlegs kicked their only goal for the match in the final term as Tigers ran out 67-point winners.
As productive as the final term was for Bairnsdale, Morwell still managed five of their own, showing off a much greater depth at reserves level than the Redlegs.
It was great to see Josh Wykes suit up for the second week in a row and and be among the better player.
Other solid performers included Harrison Cook, Bryan Froud, Xavier Lane, Tarkyn Scott and Jacob Farley.
Bairnsdale moved to the top of the thirds ladder, blowing the Tigers away in the second half with their run and carry, the kicking into forward 50 a feature.
The Redlegs kicked three unanswered first term majors before Morwell bounced back with the same scenario in the second half, the Redlegs lead cut to just three points at the long break.
The game transformed in the second half as Bairnsdale kicked 11 goals to one, running out sensational 64-point winners.
Chidi Otuonye (four goals), Rex Hargreaves (three) and Charlie Moss (two) were all active and busy inside the 50 metre arc.
Best players for the Redlegs were Campbell Reed, Lieuwen, Dylan Boucher, Hargreaves, Xavier Lane and Otuonye.
It was another good result for Bairnsdale in the fourths, holding on for a hard-fought win, but only just, maintaining their hold on fourth spot.
The Redlegs kicked six of their seven goals for the match in the first quarter and in fact only had three other scoring opportunities for the match and still won.
Oscar Baylis (three) and Jordan Andrews (two) were busy for Bairnsdale in that fast-paced first quarter, which saw both sides move the ball impressively when the opportunity arose.
By half time the Tigers had pegged the lead back to just 13 points, the Redlegs held up in defence strongly in the third quarter as neither was able to kick a major, Bairnsdale scoreless and Morwell registering four behinds, the lead reduced to nine points.
It’s not often a side is scoreless in the second half and wins, Bairnsdale holding onto beat the Tigers by four points, Morwell goaless in the second half, 11 minor scores costing victory.
Parker Soulsby, Baylis, Harley Young, Zane Holley, Andrews and Joseph Sykes were among the best for Bairnsdale in a remarkable victory.
Bairnsdale will head back down to the Latrobe Valley this weekend to play Moe at Ted Summerton Reserve.
