Reigning premier, Omeo Benambra now sit on top of the Omeo and District Football Netball League ladder, after banking another impressive easy victory at home in round 10 action over a winless Lindenow South.
With ladder leader Swan Reach losing in the dying moments to Bruthen, the Alpine Ranges have seized top spot after eclipsing the Swampies by 201 points at the Omeo Recreation Reserve.
Omeo Benambra had 13 of their 19 players kick goals, while Lindenow South had to wait until the final quarter to slot their first of the afternoon, a left footer from Jamie Donnelly.
The rampant Ranges played consistent football, kicking seven goals in both quarters in the first half, before finishing off the job, with twin hauls of nine goals on the way home.
With a major exodus of players from last seasons’ premiership, back-to-back flags looked unlikely early in the season, but with the continued unpredictability of Swan Reach, the dream is well and truly alive.
Former QAFL Colts player continued his outstanding form since joining the Ranges this season, kicking seven goals, well assisted by Tyler Betts (six), former coach Cody Craske (five) and Hayden Penglase (four), who is relishing playing back in the Omeo competition.
The best players for Omeo were a plenty but coaches, Wheeler and Tomkins, came up with Brandon Betts, Campbell Ahsam, Collins, Brady Pendergast, Tyler Betts and Jack Batty.
Pendergast got plenty of the ball this week after impressing in a run with role on Bruthen dynamo, Harley Kenner last week.
The Swampies tried hard but they are struggling for quality in 2025, they were well served by skipper Aaron Edwards, Marty Harrington, Donnelly, Tom Maiden, Alfred Solomon and Blake Maiden.
Omeo-Benambra will host Swift Creek this week, the Demons have won five of their last six and moved into the top four after Saturday’s win over Buchan.
Only a point separated the sides last time, expecting another encounter this week.
Lindenow South face another tough task, taking on the Bulldogs at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve.
