The Swifts Creek train just keeps rolling on, the Demons making it six wins in a row last Saturday with an emphatic 146-point victory over a winless Lindenow South in round 13 of the Omeo District Football Netball League at the Lindenow South Recreation Reserve.
Swift Creek has now moved into third position on ladder, trailing second-placed Omeo Benambra by just percentage after a slow start to
the season.
The Demons play top side Swan Reach this week and Lindenow South in the final round. Victory in those two matches could still see them finish just third with the second-placed Alpine Ranges short priced favourites to account for Bruthen and Lindenow South in their final two home and away encounters.
Given their recent form, even if they finish the season third and miss out on the vital double chance, the Demons will still fancy their chances at ultimate glory, especially if they can again get the points against the Swans at the Swan Reach Recreation Reserve
this Saturday.
The Demons onballers were again outstanding feasting on the quality service from the competition’s dominant ruckman, Andrew Sandy, who regularly found the hands of skipper Beau Hack and the two Brodies – Matthews and Cameron.
Such was the midfield dominance and the resulting inside 50 entries, Swifts Creek accumulated 51 scoring shots to the Swampies’ paltry 10.
Only errant kicking at goal kept the score under 200 points, with the Demons points total out numbering the goals.
The Demons were quick out of the blocks, kicking six unanswered first time majors, the lead was out to 80 points at half time, the only interest in the second half would be whether they kept the foot on the accelerator.
The Swampies tried hard, having some encouraging patches of play,
but without the midfield run and carry, the Demons quickly turned defence into attack.
Playing as a permanent forward, Conor Harvey showed what he is capable of when the ball comes in quickly. With his strength and aerial prowess, he is almost unbeatable one-on-one, finishing the match with nine goals.
Jay Robbie had his kicking boots on this week after struggling to find the goals a week prior, finishing with five goals, while Sandy and Hack both got forward and kicked three each.
Best for the Demons were the usual suspects – the prolific Hack, Robbie, Cameron, Sandy, Matthews and Dilon Bittner, who rarely puts in a bad game.
Shane Thorpe, Blake Bartlett, Jamie Donnelly, Nick O’Keefe, Harrison Page and Anthony Nicklen all battled hard for the Swampies against a focused Demons outfit that have their eyes on the big prize.
Lindenow South will travel to Buchan this week keen to upset
the Cavemen.
