Boisdale Briagolong has scored a hard-fought win against a persistent Lindenow in round 13 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League at the Cattery last Saturday.
The reigning premiers remain in third place on the ladder, a game behind the second-ranked Wy Yung but with a superior percentage.
The Bombers are well placed to push for the double chance, but a couple of slip ups, could see it miss the finals all together, which looked absurd a month ago.
Lindenow was within striking distance of the Bombers all day, but just couldn’t string together consecutive goals at crucial time.
Boisdale led by 14 points at quarter time, 15 at half time, 16 at three quarter time, before winning by the three quarter time margin.
Several times the Cats closed to within nine or 10 points, but the Bombers had too much to play for and losing wasn’t an option.
Tom Jolly was leading goal kicker for Boisdale, finishing with
three goals, with Brandon Rimington, Nick Marshall and giant ruckman, Matt Wilkinson all getting
two each.
The highly talented Peter Harrison combined well up forward with crafty veteran, Rohan Blandford, with both kicking four goals.
Bomber co-coach Kade Renooy was pivotal in the win, gaining valuable clearances when his side’s was under threat, joined in the best players by Shaymus Wain, Jackson Glenane, former coach Sam Bedggood, Wilkinson and Jude Scriven.
The best players for the home side were Harrison, Blandford, veteran Todd Alexander, Daniel Reid, coach Brett Waddell and Jonah Thomas.
Bomber clearance magnet, Kel Porter was reported for a strike on Norm Barry but has agreed to take a reprimand under an early plea deal.
The Cats will head to Lakes Entrance on Saturday to take on the Seagulls, two sides that look ideally matched on current form and desperate for a win.
Both sides will be keen to turn a phase of honourable losses into four points, which will benefit both confidence and morale.
Boisdale Briagolong will host the in form Orbost Snowy Rovers at home, a definite danger game, and one it cannot afford to drop, if it is keen to explore its double chance options in the coming weeks.
The Bombers will be keen to welcome back inspirational skipper, Jimmy Reeves from a niggling shoulder complaint.
The tricky small ground at the Cabbage Patch can bring some sides undone, but the Blues will have no such fears, playing the ground in recent seasons as good as anyone.
