Unbeaten reigning premier Omeo Benambra continued its outstanding season with an extraordinary win in the Omeo District netball qualifying final at Bruthen Recreation Reserve last Saturday.
The Alpine Ranges outclassed arch rival and main danger Swan Reach by a sensational 34 goals, 59-25, making a huge statement in the process.
That statement confirms what everyone has thought for some time: they are unbeatable in 2025, with plenty of bad luck required for them not to be in possession of the premiership cup again in a fortnight’s time.
It was another great result for the team from the top of the mountain in “B” grade, living up to its top-of-the-ladder billing by defeating the Swans by 14 goals, 37-23.
The match of the day was in the 17 and unders, where Bruthen caused an upset of sorts defeating ladder leader Swan Reach in a thrilling match by just one goal in a contest that could have gone either way.
At this stage the 17 and under match looms as the most exciting match on grand final day, but Swan Reach is still capable of causing an upset in “B” grade if it gets it right on the day.
In preliminary final action this week at Swan Reach, the home side is involved in all three matches.
They will take on Bruthen in “A” grade, Lindenow South in “B” grade and Omeo Benambra in the 17 and unders.
