In the lead-up to Women’s Health Week, Whelans Group is taking a step in the right direction with its Women of Whelans (WOW) group.
The WOW group was created to empower women across all areas of the business, whether in the office, on-site, or in leadership roles.
The goal is to create a more balanced, inclusive and supportive workplace by increasing female participation in what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry.
Throughout the year the group has raised money through their fundraising and casual clothes day for the following charities:
– Animal Aid Bairnsdale
– Keegan O’Brian – Go Fund Me
– Good Friday Appeal
– Gippsland Waratahs – Dragon Boat Club
– FightMND
– Dementia Australia
In total for all these charities, the group has been able to raise more than $26,000.
The group chooses a different charity each month to donate to, and for the month of May they chose the Gippsland Waratahs Dragon Boat Club, a local group supporting breast cancer survivors through community connection and the power of the paddle.
The group is particularly special to Whelans Group’s managing director and WOW member Lynne Whelan, who was one of the founding members of the group.
WOW is about more than representation; it’s about building a culture that values diversity and gives every woman at Whelans the tools, opportunities and
voice to thrive.
The business is focusing on promoting gender equality in all areas of the business, creating networking and mentoring opportunities for women at all career stages, encouraging leadership development and pathways for growth, raising awareness around the challenges women face in the industry, supporting inclusive recruitment and retention practices and engaging with the wider community to inspire future generations of women in construction, surveying and engineering.
“We are proud to be the women behind Whelans, driving positive change and making a lasting impact in our workplace and beyond,” Whelans business services manager Kaitlyn Mathers said.
